ABOUT MYNA
http://www.isna.net/youth/pages/muslim-youth-of-north-america.aspx
The youth of today are now, more than ever, often regarded as the source of society’s challenges and deficits. Underage drinking, drugs and violence are only a few examples of what have become synonymous with the word “youth”.
On the top of such a negative perception of this vibrant segment of our society, American Muslim youth have to cope with other stereotypes such as terrorism and ‘un-Americanism’. Muslim youth often find themselves in unfriendly environments within their own communities, where activities and programs are not relevant to their needs, where their opinion doesn’t count, and where their voice is seldom heard.
In the face of all of these challenges, MYNA strives to provide youth with the platform to express their thoughts and beliefs, to showcase their talents and skills, and to lead our community today, and not be relegated to the afterthoughts of tomorrow. MYNA’s unique camps, diverse programs, and exciting activities are inspired, planned, and organized wholly by youth, with the support and guidance of select, experienced advisors.
It’s this kind of empowerment that gives our youth a sense of ownership over Islamic work and institutions. This ownership is our guarantee that Islam in America will continue to flourish and grow, adding more to the beautiful mosaic of this part the world. More importantly, this sense of ownership will (god-willing) build a generation of confident, assertive Muslims with the right set of priorities and a sense of direction for a better life in this world and in the life-after.
